Which used car is better: 2006 Volkswagen Passat or 2003 Audi A4?

My parents are about to get me a used car. We're planning on getting the passat, but it's been taking awhile to everything straightened out. Just in case things weren't ready by Monday, my mom is having the audi transferred to where we live. Now both cars are about the same price and mileage, but the audi is 3 years older. Is an audi really worth as much as a volkswagen that's 3 years younger?

2006 Volkswagen Passat - $12,057

2003 Audi A4 - $7,309



Here's the average price of the highest priced A4.



2003 Audi A4 Convertible (Cabriolet) 3.0L V6 - $11,390



If you said you found them priced about the same, it's probably because the 2003 A4 is fully loaded and is a convertible with a V6 engine.



Another possibility could be that the A4 is very much overpriced, specially if it is not a convertible. Still, another possibility is that the Passat is on a promo.
