How to restore the chrome trim around my windows on a '98 Audi A4?

I have a '98 Audi A4 with chrome trim around the windows (I'm not sure if it's real chrome) anyhow, the trim looks a bit weathered (Looks like oxidation or dullness) and could use a nice shine. I've tried using a chrome cleaner and LCR, both of them made the trim look brand-new until it dried, then it was just the same before I applied them. You'll need Saran wrap or something like it, and a bottle of coke. Pour the coke on the Saran wrap then rub the chrome. Dealership told me it is because of the car wash detergent, and that is why it is not covered by any warranty. They suggested using chrome polish, but unfortunately that did not do a good job. Does anybody have a solution on this but to replace the chrome trim around window?
