Looking to buy either a 2002 Audi TT Quattro or a 1998 BMW M3 E36 need help, which is better?

Nowadays if you don't know what your looking at people just slap on M3 badges onto 3 series. The TT makes a much better appearance. I am pretty sure in terms of cost they are the same. Considering the rarity of the M3 i would think repairs would be way more costly. The BMW has more race potential and will handle better. Both will be equally expensive to maintain. M3 parts are expensive. The TT may be slightly less reliable.
