The check engine light goes on and off in my Audi, will it pass inspection?

The light has been going on and off for sometime now. The only code it reads is torque converter stuck or shut off. If I go the the shop right after the light turns itself off, will it pass inspection or is it stored in the computer? The torque converter replacement is about $2200... has anyone had this problem with an Audi that turned out to not be the torque converter? The check engine light goes on and off in my Audi, will it pass inspection?I have an old ford F140. the check engine light comes off and on and it passes inspection. The check engine light goes on and off in my Audi, will it pass inspection? It is probably NOT your torque converter. The system may be trying to warn you that the trans fluid is getting worn out. Audi requires the use of special GOLD colored fluid with special properties. There is a special technique required to even ADD fluid. European cars require reprogramming from the dealership. Regular OBDII scans only point in the right direction. Chances are that a fluid flushing at the Audi or VW dealer will solve your problem. Also, there are 2 computers in your car that must communicate with each other. One comes from the engine, and the other is for the trans. There is a special communications line in between. This is complicated and requires the skill of a genuine factory trained person to check and repair. You should find a way to clean your throttle body and IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE before you have your systems scanned. These items can make or break the emissions test. DON'T HESITATE!!! Go to Audi dealer and authorize one hour of diagnostics before you destroy your $3500 transmission!!!!The check engine light goes on and off in my Audi, will it pass inspection? It depends on what state you live in. Anytime your "check engine" light comes on it leaves a code. States that check for emissions will likely connect a computer to your car. Depending on the code, it will tell the emission testing machine that your car is "not ready" for emissions testing and fail you.

since your code relates to a torque converter, this is not an emissions item. No telling what may happen. But if your "check engine" light is on, it will not pass.

I would get it fixed before your inspections. Also a bad torque converter can damage the entire transmission, turning a $2200 repair into a $5000 repair. The check engine light goes on and off in my Audi, will it pass inspection?
Depends on the year of the car. 1996 and later use OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics version 2), and do store codes. The code may have a P or an H as the prefix. There are others for brakes, body electrics, and so on. But if the SEL (Service Engine Light) is coming on, it's probably in the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). If the light has gone off, the code will become an "H" code for History.

My 5-series BMW had a problem with the fuel tank evaporative system, and threw a P1449. It's been fixed, but will be stored as an H1449 for a while. This helps the tech figure out a problem - they can see if it's occurred before.

Short version is that it depends on your state - the TCC (torque convertor clutch) is part of the emissions and fuel economy system, so you would probably fail if that code is active. If it's in history, it would depend on how far in history. BMW keep a counter showing how long it's been since the code was seen.
